90s rainbow carpet covers 

white wall to white wall 

to block arraigned sunlight from 

barred windows. 

Years of splendor sit on the top shelf 

out of reach, 

each child arranged neatly on the sidewalk, 

naptime’s over. 

Kids burn baseball cards, 

and teenagers watch executions online, 

to assure themselves that there is something out there 

more evil than the men that lock them in their classrooms 

on silver platters for incel soldiers 

to relieve them of their mortal coil.
